PM Modi Hails Mahayuti’s Civic Poll Sweep, Says Maharashtra Blessed NDA’s Good Governance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance’s emphatic victory in the Maharashtra civic body elections, calling it a clear endorsement of the National Democratic Alliance’s model of governance, development and public welfare.

As trends pointed to a near-complete sweep by the Mahayuti across municipal corporations in the state, the Prime Minister said the results reflected the strengthening bond between the NDA and the people of Maharashtra. He described the mandate as a collective vote of confidence in the alliance’s vision for growth, stability and grassroots development.

Taking to X, Modi expressed gratitude to the electorate and said the outcome showed that voters had rewarded performance over politics of disruption. He noted that the success of the Mahayuti was rooted in its consistent focus on infrastructure development, civic reforms and welfare delivery at the local level.

The Prime Minister said the mandate would provide fresh momentum to Maharashtra’s progress and added that the results were also a celebration of the state’s cultural and democratic spirit.

MAHAYUTI DOMINATES CIVIC POLLS

According to trends, the BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde) alliance is leading or winning in 24 of the 29 municipal corporations that went to the polls across Maharashtra. The results marked one of the strongest civic performances for the ruling alliance in recent years and significantly reshaped the state’s urban political landscape.

In Mumbai, the Mahayuti crossed the halfway mark in the 227-member Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, ending the decades-long dominance of the Thackeray family over India’s richest civic institution. The alliance’s performance placed it well ahead of the Shiv Sena (UBT), the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP faction.

If the numbers hold, Mumbai is set to witness its first mayor not aligned with the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, marking a historic shift in the city’s political leadership.

NDA LEADERS CELEBRATE VERDICT

Senior NDA leaders welcomed the results as a validation of the alliance’s governance record. Union leaders congratulated party workers for their grassroots efforts and credited disciplined organisation and local outreach for the sweeping outcome.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the party headquarters in Mumbai to thank workers and supporters. He said the verdict showed that urban voters had placed their trust in the NDA’s development-oriented agenda and its emphasis on transparent administration.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also welcomed the mandate, stating that the results reflected public approval of the alliance’s focus on civic infrastructure, improved municipal services and responsive governance.

MESSAGE FOR OPPOSITION

Political observers said the results delivered a strong message to opposition parties that attempted last-minute alliances and symbolic reunions without organisational cohesion. The much-discussed reunion of the Thackeray cousins failed to counter the Mahayuti’s coordinated campaign and clear leadership structure.

Analysts noted that the civic poll outcome could have long-term implications for Maharashtra politics, particularly as it strengthens the BJP-led alliance’s position ahead of future Assembly and parliamentary contests.

With urban Maharashtra firmly backing the Mahayuti, the civic verdict has reinforced the NDA’s narrative that consistent governance and development continue to resonate strongly with voters at the grassroots level.
