India Warns Nationals Against Seeking Jobs Through Malaysia Visa-Free Entry

India’s High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has warned Indian nationals against using Malaysia’s visa-free entry facility to look for employment, saying the arrangement is intended for tourism and social visits. Malaysia currently exempts Indian citizens from visa requirements for tourist travel until December 31, 2026.

The advisory cautioned that some Indians are reportedly being lured by agents offering false job opportunities. Entering Malaysia as a tourist and taking up employment without the required immigration authorisation can result in illegal status, exploitation, detention, overstay and legal action.

Malaysian immigration authorities have clarified that the visa exemption for Indian nationals applies to tourism and does not extend to employment-related passes. Those travelling to Malaysia for work must follow the applicable employment and visa procedures.

Travellers entering for tourism are also expected to meet immigration requirements, including carrying a passport valid for at least six months, proof of accommodation and a confirmed return ticket. Indian travellers using the applicable registration facility must also comply with its conditions.

The High Commission has therefore urged Indians not to travel to Malaysia for employment on tourist entry and to verify job offers and immigration requirements before making travel arrangements.
