Asian Games 2026: Fencing Association Announces Rs 10 Lakh Reward for Gold

The Fencing Association of India has announced cash rewards for Indian fencers who win medals at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Gold medallists will receive Rs 10 lakh, while silver and bronze medallists will be awarded Rs 7.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively.

The announcement comes as India prepares for another attempt to secure its first fencing medal in Asian Games history. At the 2023 Hangzhou Games, Taniksha Khatri reached the quarter-finals of the women’s epee competition and finished seventh, while Bhavani Devi reached the last eight in women’s sabre and finished fifth.

India’s fencing campaign at the 2026 Games begins on Wednesday, with four athletes scheduled to compete in individual events. Sachin and Hemash Singh Sanasam will represent India in men’s foil, while Mitva Chaudhari and Taniksha Khatri will compete in women’s epee. The events will begin with pool stages before progressing to the knockout rounds.

The country’s fencing programme has recorded progress in recent years, including Bhavani Devi’s bronze at the 2023 Asian Fencing Championships, making her the first Indian to win a senior medal at the continental championships.

With the FAI introducing financial incentives for podium finishes, Indian fencers will enter the Asian Games campaign aiming to turn recent individual progress into the country’s first fencing medal at the continental event.
