The INDIA bloc MPs meet President Murmu initiative is aimed at raising opposition concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission of India and seeking presidential intervention on electoral issues.
According to the report, opposition Members of Parliament are scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and submit a memorandum outlining their grievances. Before the meeting, opposition MPs will gather at the Central Hall of the old Parliament building to finalise the delegation.
The opposition is seeking changes to the electoral process and has called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. It is also demanding the immediate suspension of ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercises.
Ten-Member Delegation to Present Demands
A 10-member delegation is expected to present the memorandum to the President. The document will detail the opposition’s concerns about the Election Commission’s functioning and its handling of electoral processes.
The proposed meeting follows a series of opposition protests over alleged electoral irregularities, including claims described by opposition leaders as “vote chori”.
The INDIA bloc has sought greater scrutiny of the electoral process and is asking the President to intervene in response to its concerns.
Further Demonstrations Planned
The opposition is also planning further demonstrations as part of its campaign over election-related issues.
The planned presidential meeting represents another step in the INDIA bloc’s efforts to bring its concerns about the Election Commission to the attention of constitutional authorities.
The outcome of the meeting and any response from the President’s office were not detailed in the report. The developments are expected to keep the functioning of the Election Commission and the ongoing SIR exercises at the centre of the political debate.
