India Slams Pakistan at UN, Calls Afghan Civilian Strikes ‘Acts of War’

India sharply criticised Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council for conducting deadly airstrikes inside Afghanistan, calling them acts of war and a violation of the UN Charter and international law.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, said the strikes—which reportedly killed women, children and even local cricketers—posed a serious threat to regional stability. He also condemned Pakistan’s repeated border closures as “trade and transit terrorism,” arguing that restricting access to a landlocked, crisis-hit Afghanistan violates WTO norms and exacerbates humanitarian suffering.

The remarks came after fresh clashes erupted between Pakistani forces and the Taliban, despite a ceasefire agreement reached less than two months earlier. Pakistan’s latest attacks triggered Afghan retaliation, marking one of the most intense confrontations since the Taliban’s 2021 takeover.

India reaffirmed its support for Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and urged the global community to prevent terror groups—including ISIL, Al-Qaida, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and TRF—from exploiting cross-border tensions. Harish stressed that engagement—not isolation—is essential for meaningful progress in Afghanistan, calling on the UN to adopt nuanced policies that incentivise stability and benefit Afghan civilians.
