India Welcomes 2026 With Tight Security in Delhi, Mumbai; Manali Waits for Snow

India is set to welcome the New Year 2026 amid heightened security arrangements in major cities, while popular tourist destinations prepare for celebrations under mixed weather conditions.

In Delhi, police conducted mock security drills at key public locations, including Connaught Place, to ensure preparedness for large gatherings. Authorities have stepped up patrolling, surveillance and crowd management measures across the capital as revellers gear up for year-end celebrations.

Mumbai has also witnessed intensified security. Special arrangements have been made around prominent religious sites such as Siddhivinayak Temple, while Mumbai Metro services have been extended to facilitate late-night travel. Police have deployed additional personnel across busy zones, beaches and entertainment hubs.

In southern India, Bengaluru authorities have deployed more than 20,000 police personnel citywide. Strict checks against drunk driving, noise violations and public disturbances are being enforced to ensure a safe New Year’s Eve.

In neighbouring Noida, traffic advisories have been issued and additional police forces deployed at malls, marketplaces and party venues to manage crowds and vehicular movement.

Meanwhile, in the hill town of Manali, tourists expressed disappointment over the absence of snowfall ahead of the New Year. Despite the dry spell, celebrations continue along Mall Road, with visitors enjoying parties and festive events amid chilly conditions.

Across the country, authorities remain on high alert, balancing celebration with caution as India steps into 2026 under tight security and festive spirit.
