The Keerthy Suresh interfaith marriage story has drawn attention after the actor spoke about the challenges she faced while convincing her family to accept her relationship with businessman Antony Thattil. The couple dated for nearly 15 years before getting married in December 2024.
In a conversation with Curly Tales, Keerthy recalled how her mother, veteran actor Menaka, discovered the relationship during her college years after reading her personal diary.
The diary reportedly contained details about Antony and their romance. Recalling the incident, Keerthy said her mother believed she had the right to read it because she was her parent.
The experience left the actor upset, and she eventually stopped maintaining a diary, despite having enjoyed writing regularly.
Keerthy said she still wishes she could recover the diary, although she suspects her mother may have burned it.
Family Took Time to Accept Their Interfaith Relationship
The actor also discussed the initial hesitation at home because Antony is Christian. According to Keerthy, convincing her family took time.
She recalled that the two met in December 2009 and began dating in January 2010. Their relationship continued for years before they married in 2024.
Keerthy was studying in Class 12 when they started dating, while Antony, who is seven years older, was working in Qatar. Their relationship also included a six-year long-distance phase.
One aspect Keerthy particularly values is that Antony knew her before she entered the film industry.
She said they had effectively grown up together, describing his familiarity with her life before fame as one of the most special parts of their relationship.
From a Private Romance to a 2024 Wedding
The couple kept their relationship largely private for years, with only a few people from the film industry aware of it. Keerthy made the relationship public in November 2024 through a photograph with Antony celebrating Diwali.
They married on December 12, 2024, in Goa, in two ceremonies reflecting their respective traditions: a Tamil Hindu wedding and a Malayali Christian ceremony. Family members and close friends attended the celebrations.

On the professional front, Keerthy was most recently seen in Netflix's Akka, directed by Dharmaraj Shetty. The crime thriller also features Radhika Apte, Tanvi Azmi, Monika Pawar, Anshumaan Pushkar, Poornima Indrajith and Vishak Nair.
Her latest comments offer a personal glimpse into the relationship that remained away from public attention for much of its 15-year journey.
