The US arms sales to Taiwan 2027 timeline could be influenced by changes in Washington following the US midterm elections, according to Academia Sinica researcher Fu Pengming.
Analysing the potential impact of the congressional transition on American defence commitments to Taiwan, Fu predicted that the Trump administration could resume arms sales around February or later in 2027.
However, he suggested that the deliveries might not be announced or implemented as one large package.
Arms Transfers Could Be Divided Into Smaller Packages
Fu said the United States could divide the proposed arms package into several smaller deliveries while maintaining its overall value.
Explaining his assessment, he said: "My prediction is still that after the, the, uh, new House and new Senate, Trump, I think maybe in February or late in 2027, the US will actually resume the arms sale to Taiwan, but not as a whole package."
His remarks indicate that the structure of future arms transfers could change even if the overall value of the proposed package remains intact.
Congressional Transition and Taiwan Defence Commitments
Fu's analysis focused on how the change in congressional composition following the US midterm elections could affect Washington's decisions on arms transfers to Taiwan.
His comments represent an assessment of a possible future development rather than an official announcement by the US administration.
The timing, size and structure of any potential arms sale remain subject to decisions by Washington.
