Luke Thompson, best known for playing Benedict Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, has revealed that he has Indian roots. Ahead of the release of Bridgerton Season 4, the actor opened up about his heritage and shared his desire to visit India to explore his ancestry.
In a recent interview, Thompson disclosed that his grandmother was of Indian English origin. While he admitted that Indian culture was not a large part of his upbringing, he expressed curiosity about his genetic connection to the country.
He said that it is fascinating how genetics work and acknowledged that although India may not have played a central cultural role in his life, it still forms part of his identity. The actor added that he would love to travel to India and experience the country firsthand.
The revelation has sparked interest among Indian fans of Bridgerton, who have followed Thompson’s journey on the globally popular period drama.
Season 4 of Bridgerton places Benedict Bridgerton at the centre of the storyline for the first time. After previously avoiding societal expectations and navigating complicated relationships, Benedict now steps into his own romantic chapter. His character’s evolving emotional arc is expected to form the heart of the new season.
Speaking about the show’s appeal, Thompson highlighted that Bridgerton goes beyond grand romance and lavish settings. He explained that while the series may appear to follow the traditional structure of a romance novel, it deeply explores the emotional complexities of love and relationships. According to him, the show challenges the idea that romantic stories are simplistic and instead portrays layered, human experiences.
In Season 4, Benedict’s story introduces Sophie Baek, played by Yerin Ha. Her character, often referred to as the Lady in Silver, becomes central to his romantic journey after a memorable encounter at a masquerade ball.
The new season was released in two parts, with Part 1 premiering on January 29, 2026, and Part 2 on February 26, 2026. The season consists of eight episodes in total.
As anticipation builds around the latest instalment, Luke Thompson’s revelation about his Indian roots has added an emotional connection for viewers in India. With his growing global popularity, a future visit to the country could further strengthen his bond with Indian fans.
