Macron Praises India’s Global Leadership, Highlights Indian-Origin CEOs

French President Emmanuel Macron praised India’s growing influence in global innovation and leadership during the India–France Innovation Forum held in Mumbai. Highlighting the achievements of Indian-origin leaders heading major multinational corporations, he said India is not merely participating in global innovation but actively leading it.

In his address, Macron cited several global technology and business giants led by Indian-origin CEOs, including Alphabet, Microsoft, IBM, Adobe and Palo Alto Networks. His remarks underscored the increasing presence of Indian talent at the helm of global corporations and their contribution to shaping the future of technology and business.

The French President also drew attention when he noted that the CEO of the luxury fashion house Chanel hails from Kolhapur in Maharashtra — the very state where he delivered his speech. The remark was met with smiles from dignitaries present at the event, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Macron emphasised that India’s innovation strength lies in its vast talent pool, entrepreneurial spirit and its ability to scale solutions for a massive population. He said these strengths position India as a key player in shaping industries of the future, including technology, digital infrastructure and advanced manufacturing.

His visit also marked a significant diplomatic milestone, as India and France elevated their relationship to a “special global strategic partnership.” Both nations pledged to deepen cooperation in critical sectors such as defence, trade, critical minerals and emerging technologies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the partnership as a stabilising force in a world facing uncertainty and geopolitical tensions. He stated that the collaboration combines France’s technological expertise with India’s scale and innovation capabilities.

Modi highlighted that France remains one of India’s oldest and most trusted strategic partners. He noted that the relationship has gained new momentum under the leadership of both countries, built on mutual trust, shared democratic values and a common vision for global progress.

The upgraded partnership aims to strengthen cooperation in areas including security, clean energy, supply chains and technological innovation. Leaders from both countries emphasised that the alliance will contribute not only to bilateral growth but also to global stability and development.

Macron’s remarks celebrating Indian leadership in global corporations and innovation reflect India’s rising prominence on the world stage. As the country continues to produce global business leaders and drive technological advancement, its role in shaping the future global economy continues to expand.
