A woman doctor from Maharashtra’s Satara district was found dead in a hotel room, reportedly by suicide, after leaving a shocking note accusing two police officers of sexual assault and harassment. The doctor, who served at a government-run hospital in Satara, reportedly left a suicide note written on her hand, naming the accused officers and detailing months of abuse.
According to reports, the note accused PSI Gopal Badane of repeatedly raping her over five months, while police officer Prashant Bankar allegedly subjected her to mental harassment. The suicide note, reportedly written on the doctor’s hand, has prompted authorities to initiate forensic testing to verify its authenticity and ensure all legal protocols are observed.
Following the discovery, police sent the body for a post-mortem examination and began a forensic analysis of the note. The ongoing investigation aims to establish the sequence of events, corroborate allegations, and determine the extent of criminal conduct. Officials have indicated that both the post-mortem and forensic findings will play a critical role in the legal process moving forward.
No official statements have yet been released by the accused officers or their department regarding the specific allegations. Authorities are expected to follow due legal procedure, and forensic results will guide the next steps in the investigation.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of women professionals and the accountability of law enforcement in Maharashtra. Local and state authorities are under pressure to ensure a transparent investigation, and the case highlights the need for stringent measures to protect victims of sexual harassment, especially within institutions and public service sectors.
Experts note that forensic verification of handwritten suicide notes is essential in cases involving serious allegations against officials, as it ensures legal accuracy and helps prevent miscarriage of justice. Maharashtra police have reassured the public that the investigation will be conducted impartially and under strict procedural norms.
The tragic case has also sparked broader discussions on the mental health and workplace safety of women doctors and the role of law enforcement in addressing complaints of sexual misconduct effectively. As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to review CCTV footage, witness statements, and hospital records, alongside forensic findings, to form a complete picture of the events leading to the doctor’s death.
