Overnight rainfall brought a noticeable change in Delhi-NCR weather, lowering temperatures and giving residents a taste of winter. Several parts of the capital received steady showers late Thursday night, leaving roads wet and waterlogged as cloudy conditions continued across the region.
The rainfall also coincided with an improvement in Delhi's air quality. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 133 at 4 am on Friday, placing it in the moderate category. This was a significant improvement from readings above 200 recorded on Wednesday and Thursday, when pollution levels remained in the poor category.
Delhi also experienced its coldest October day in four years on October 29, with temperatures falling 5.6 degrees Celsius below normal amid the weakening influence of Cyclone Arnab.
More Rain and Thunderstorms Expected on October 30
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad on October 30.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in New Delhi, the region is likely to experience generally cloudy skies, with one or two spells of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Isolated heavy rainfall is also possible during the night.
The weather is expected to improve on October 31, when partly cloudy skies are forecast without any weather warnings. From November 1, Delhi-NCR is likely to experience mainly clear skies and more stable conditions.
Heavy Rainfall Alert Across Central and Eastern India
While Delhi-NCR is expected to see improving weather, several other states remain under rainfall alerts.
The IMD has forecast isolated extremely heavy rainfall in north Bihar on October 30. Similar intense rainfall is possible in parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Heavy to very heavy showers are also likely across Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and East Uttar Pradesh.
A low-to-moderate flash flood risk alert remains in place until October 30 for vulnerable watersheds in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh.
Southern States May See More Rain From November 2
Rainfall activity is expected to increase across southern India from early November as a weather system over the Bay of Bengal approaches the region.
Between November 2 and 4, more widespread showers are likely in Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The IMD has also forecast isolated very heavy rainfall in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on November 2 and 3. Telangana may experience thunderstorms and thundersqualls, with gusty winds reaching up to 60 kmph.
