External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held separate meetings with his Russian, Polish and South Korean counterparts in the United States, discussing the Ukraine conflict, the situation in West Asia, bilateral relations and multilateral issues.
The engagements came as India continued its diplomatic outreach amid multiple international developments, including regional security tensions and emergencies involving Indian nationals abroad.
During his visit, Jaishankar also unveiled a bust of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the Consulate General of India in Atlanta to mark Patel's birth anniversary.
Meanwhile, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval arrived in Vietnam on Sunday for an official visit. He is scheduled to meet the country's leadership to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations.
Travel Disruptions and Rescue Efforts Involving Indians
Several developments involving Indian nationals abroad added to the diplomatic challenges.
Flight disruptions between India and Saudi Arabia continued amid security concerns. Akasa Air extended the suspension of its Jeddah services until November 18 and Riyadh services until November 30.
In Nepal, six Indian tourists, including two women, remained stranded in the Shey-Phoksundo National Park area after heavy snowfall disrupted their movement. Officials said security personnel had been deployed and rescue operations were underway.
The Sri Lanka Navy also detained seven Indian fishermen and seized their trawler over allegations that they had entered the island nation's territorial waters for fishing.
Regional Security Concerns Remain in Focus
Pakistan warned Afghanistan that it reserved the right to take necessary measures against cross-border terrorism. Islamabad described terrorism as a red line and accused the Taliban-led government of failing to address its security concerns.
In Bangladesh, garment workers staged demonstrations in Gazipur and Dhaka over their longstanding demand for higher wages. The government subsequently announced the formation of a wage board, according to local media reports.
India Strengthens Consular Outreach in China
India's diplomatic engagement also extended to consular services. The Indian Consulate in Shanghai launched a month-long special campaign to prioritise the timely resolution of consular issues faced by members of the Indian diaspora in its jurisdiction.
The developments highlight the range of issues confronting Indian diplomacy, from major geopolitical discussions and regional security concerns to the safety of citizens, consular assistance and bilateral relations.
