The NCERT online diploma in science teaching will offer professional development for teachers and educators working with students of Classes 6 to 8. The 40-week Diploma Course in Teaching of Science at Middle Stage is designed to strengthen both science subject knowledge and classroom teaching skills.
Registration for the 2026–27 batch will open on October 12, 2026, and candidates can apply until November 12 through the NCERTX online learning platform. The programme is scheduled to begin on November 16 and is tentatively expected to conclude on August 31, 2027.
The course consists of 40 modules, with one new module scheduled to be released every Monday. Participants are expected to spend around six to eight hours each week completing the course material.
NCERT describes the programme as a professional-development course based on interactive and multimedia learning resources.
Who Can Apply for the NCERT Course?
The programme is open to several categories of candidates involved in Science education. These include:
- Candidates holding a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree
- In-service teachers teaching Science in Classes 6 to 8
- Candidates with a diploma or degree in education
- Pre-service teachers pursuing an education diploma or degree
- Others directly involved in Science education
The one-time enrolment fee is Rs 2,000, with NCERT stating that there is no additional course fee. After making the payment, candidates will receive an invitation email from NCERTX with instructions for completing enrolment.
40 Modules and Final Examination
Each of the 40 modules includes an objective test. Participants who complete all modules and appear for all 40 tests will become eligible for a final examination.
Those who successfully complete the programme will receive an NCERT e-certificate titled “Teaching of Science at Middle Stage.”
However, the diploma is specifically intended for academic and professional development. NCERT has clarified that the programme is not a teacher-recruitment qualification and cannot be treated as equivalent to qualifications required for appointment as a teacher.
The course is therefore positioned as an opportunity for educators and Science professionals to strengthen their knowledge and teaching skills rather than as a route to teacher recruitment eligibility.
