Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and launched a series of major infrastructure, energy and manufacturing projects during his visits to Rajasthan and Gujarat. The centrepiece of the Rajasthan visit was the inauguration of India's first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Pachpadra in Barmer district, while the Gujarat leg of the tour focuses on strengthening India's semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
The projects span aviation, transport, petrochemicals, urban infrastructure, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing, reflecting the government's broader push to accelerate economic growth and industrial development.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the 9 MMTPA greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Pachpadra in Rajasthan's Barmer district.
Developed as a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the Rajasthan government, the project has been built with an investment of more than ₹79,450 crore.
The refinery is expected to strengthen India's domestic refining capacity, support the petrochemical sector and generate significant employment opportunities while boosting industrial development in western Rajasthan.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister inaugurated the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport.
Built at a cost of around ₹480 crore, the terminal spans nearly 23,000 square metres and is designed to handle up to 20 lakh passengers annually.
The upgraded facility is expected to improve passenger experience, enhance regional connectivity and support tourism and business activity across Rajasthan.
During the Jodhpur programme, PM Modi also launched the Modified UDAN Scheme, aimed at expanding regional air connectivity across India.
The Centre has earmarked approximately ₹28,840 crore over the next decade under the revised programme to improve access to airports in smaller cities and underserved regions.
The initiative forms part of the government's strategy to make air travel more accessible while supporting balanced regional development.
The Prime Minister also dedicated, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects collectively valued at around ₹1.06 lakh crore.
The projects cover multiple sectors, including:
Among the major announcements was the foundation stone for the ₹13,000 crore Jaipur Metro Phase 2 project, which is expected to strengthen public transport in the state capital.
Following the Rajasthan programmes, PM Modi is scheduled to visit Sanand, Gujarat, where he will inaugurate the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility.
The project, developed with an investment of over ₹7,500 crore, marks the beginning of commercial semiconductor packaging and testing operations under the India Semiconductor Mission.
The facility is expected to cater to industries including automotive, telecommunications, industrial electronics, 5G technologies and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
The projects unveiled during the Prime Minister's visit align with the government's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, which aims to expand infrastructure, strengthen manufacturing, promote clean energy and improve logistics across the country.
Officials say investments in transport, energy and high-technology manufacturing are expected to support employment generation, industrial growth and long-term economic competitiveness.
