PM Modi to Putin: India Stands for Peace, Not Neutrality, at New Delhi Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a strong and clear message during his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in New Delhi, declaring that “India is not neutral — we are on the side of peace.” His remarks came as both leaders held crucial discussions against the backdrop of the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict.

During the meeting, PM Modi highlighted India’s consistent diplomatic stance aimed at de-escalation and dialogue. He emphasised that India supports any initiative that advances lasting peace and stability. The talks also covered recent developments in global negotiations, including Putin’s interactions with US President Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner, who are engaged in backchannel discussions on the crisis.

PM Modi also reflected on the long-standing strategic partnership between India and Russia, recalling that their cooperation began taking its modern shape during their first meeting in 2001. The New Delhi summit further reinforced the continuity of this relationship across defence, energy, trade and global security cooperation.
