Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders to Stream on Netflix December 19 Featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Netflix is bringing back one of its most compelling Indian detectives with Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, the sequel to the 2020 crime thriller Raat Akeli Hai. The film will release globally on December 19, 2025, following its world premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

Directed by Honey Trehan, the sequel marks Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s return as Inspector Jatil Yadav, the dogged investigator known for his unyielding instincts and complex moral compass. The new instalment deepens the universe of the original film, introducing a darker, more layered mystery.

A Brutal Massacre in Kanpur Sets the Stage

Set in Kanpur, the narrative revolves around a chilling multiple murder inside the influential Bansal family. As Jatil Yadav takes charge of the investigation, the case unravels into a web of power struggles, concealed motives, intergenerational secrets, and long-buried conflicts.

Each member of the Bansal household becomes a suspect. Each clue leads further into a maze of corruption and betrayal. The sequel shifts from the original’s single homicide to a broader, more sinister exploration of wealth and decay.

At the IFFI premiere, Siddiqui reflected on revisiting one of his most compelling characters.

“Coming back as Jatil Yadav feels like reconnecting with a part of myself that never truly left,” he said. “This film pushes him emotionally and morally in ways he has not encountered before. Watching it premiere at IFFI and now reaching a global audience through Netflix feels special.”

Expanding the Raat Akeli Hai Universe

Written by Smita Singh, the film expands the thematic breadth of the original while introducing new characters and dynamics. It explores the ripple effects of collective violence and the dark underbelly of privilege, legacy, and ambition.

Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders will stream exclusively on Netflix from December 19, 2025, offering audiences a gripping continuation of one of India’s most acclaimed neo-noir crime dramas.
