Rakesh Bedi Hints at Darker Role in Dhurandhar 2 as Sequel Gears Up

Veteran actor Rakesh Bedi, widely known for his comic roles, has hinted at a much darker arc for his character in Dhurandhar 2, the sequel to director Aditya Dhar’s blockbuster espionage thriller Dhurandhar.

Bedi, who portrayed politician Jameel Jamali in the first film, said his character will evolve into a more dangerous and complex figure in the sequel. Speaking in a recent interview, the actor revealed that the role has allowed him to move beyond comedy and explore a layered, morally ambiguous personality.

Recalling how the role came to him, Bedi said Aditya Dhar offered him the character of Jameel because it carried depth and unpredictability. He added that the sequel will push the character further into darker territory, giving him the opportunity to showcase a completely different side of his acting range.

The actor explained that Jameel Jamali may appear straightforward on the surface but is, in reality, cunning, manipulative and strategically sharp. He credited Dhar for recognising his experience across decades of stage and screen work and trusting him with a character that thrives on subtlety rather than overt theatrics.

In Dhurandhar, Bedi shared screen space with Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun. His portrayal stood out for its restraint and political intrigue, marking a significant shift from his earlier image.

Sharing a glimpse into the sequel’s narrative, Bedi suggested that Jameel’s grip on power may be tested as alliances shift and control begins to slip. While stopping short of revealing major plot details, he hinted at internal conflict and sharper power plays ahead.

Dhurandhar 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on March 19, 2026. The first instalment continues to perform strongly at the box office, having crossed ₹480 crore within 15 days of release. Its blend of espionage, political drama and high-octane action has resonated with audiences across markets.

With the sequel promising deeper character arcs and heightened tension, Bedi’s darker turn as Jameel Jamali is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated elements of Dhurandhar 2.
