Ranveer Singh’s spy action thriller Dhurandhar has crossed a major box office milestone, emerging as a global blockbuster with collections exceeding Rs 1,300 crore despite its availability on Netflix. The film’s sustained theatrical performance has reinforced the strength of cinema-led storytelling, proving that digital premieres do not necessarily dilute big-screen appeal when audience interest remains high.
After 59 days in theatres, Dhurandhar continues to add to its lifetime earnings, even as its daily collections have stabilised in the later weeks. In India, the film has grossed over Rs 1,000 crore, cementing its status as one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time. On the international front, the spy thriller has amassed close to Rs 300 crore, pushing its worldwide total to approximately Rs 1,303 crore.
The film’s endurance at the box office is particularly noteworthy given its ninth-week performance. While weekday collections have dipped to the Rs 40–50 lakh range, the movie continues to draw audiences due to limited competition from new theatrical releases. On its 59th day, Dhurandhar earned around Rs 45 lakh nett in India, underlining its long tail at the box office.
According to industry tracking data, Dhurandhar has collected Rs 836.95 crore nett domestically. This translates to a gross domestic figure of approximately Rs 1,004 crore, placing it in an elite club of Indian films to breach the four-digit crore mark within the country. The overseas contribution of Rs 299 crore has further strengthened its global standing, highlighting the film’s resonance with international audiences.
The movie’s week-wise domestic performance reflects its strong opening and consistent hold. It earned over Rs 207 crore in its first week, followed by a surge in the second week, which brought in more than Rs 253 crore. While collections gradually tapered in subsequent weeks, the film maintained steady footfalls well into its second month, a rare achievement in the current theatrical landscape.
Directed and written by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar features an ensemble cast led by Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna, with key performances from Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan. The film blends high-octane action with political intrigue, positioning itself as a gritty spy thriller rooted in real-world events.
The narrative draws inspiration from several major incidents, including the IC-814 hijacking, the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, and covert intelligence operations linked to Pakistan’s Lyari region. This blend of realism and cinematic storytelling has been cited as one of the reasons for the film’s wide appeal.
The success of Dhurandhar has also intensified anticipation for its sequel, Dhurandhar 2 – The Revenge, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 19. With expectations already running high, the first film’s record-breaking run has set the stage for another major box office event.
Overall, Dhurandhar stands as a clear example of how compelling content, star power, and theatrical spectacle can thrive even in an era dominated by streaming platforms.
