Suspicious Faridabad Madrasa Under Probe for Alleged Funding by Delhi Blast Accused

Investigative agencies probing the deadly Red Fort blast are now examining an under-construction, partly underground madrasa located near Faridabad’s Al-Falah University. According to senior officials, the structure may have been funded in part by Dr Muzammil Ganie, a key accused in the Delhi blast conspiracy.

Dr Ganie was arrested from the Al-Falah University premises just hours before the explosion that killed 15 people in Delhi. His associate, Dr Umar un Nabi, later detonated the device. The arrests also led to the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives near the university, intensifying scrutiny of surrounding properties and networks.

Suspicious Madrasa Found Just 2 km from Terror-Tainted University

The madrasa in question lies in the middle of a village, barely two kilometres from Al-Falah University. Though officials were initially informed that it was a government-supported religious school, the structure’s design and placement have raised several red flags.

Spread across 4,000–5,000 square feet, the building remains partially constructed and unusually positioned. A large section of it is 7–8 feet below ground level, despite the plot being flat and not requiring an underground layout. Only a small portion extends above the ground, creating a low-profile exterior that appears intentionally concealed.

Officials conducting the survey noted significant deviations from standard madrasa architecture. The underground segment lacks ventilation, raising concerns about its intended purpose and safety. Walls measure approximately 23 cm in thickness, and the entire periphery contains 1.9-metre-wide raised platforms—consistent with structural features often used to support concealed storage or movement areas.

Possible Use and Design Anomalies Raise Concerns

Stairs descend directly into the low-lying structure from the roof level. Investigators also discovered mats placed on the raised platforms, suggesting that children may have been attending informal classes in the underground space.

However, the scale, design, and hidden layout have prompted agencies to consider whether the site was intended for purposes beyond education.

Officials now suspect that Dr Ganie may have contributed funds to the madrasa through the same channels used for the blast conspiracy. The proximity to Al-Falah University—already linked to explosives and radicalised individuals—strengthens the investigative focus.

Authorities are examining whether the madrasa was meant to be a religious institution or a potential safe house, storage facility or covert operational site connected to wider terror financing and planning.

Investigations are ongoing, and agencies are mapping financial trails, construction permissions, and all individuals involved in the project.
