The UGC-NET December 2026 registration count has crossed 2.18 lakh, with the National Testing Agency (NTA) reporting a combined total of 2,18,961 applications for the upcoming UGC-NET and Joint CSIR-UGC NET examinations.
The agency shared the latest figures on its official X account on October 22, 2026, and urged candidates to complete their applications before the respective deadlines.
These examinations determine eligibility for academic and research opportunities, including the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), assistant professor positions and PhD admissions, depending on the examination and applicable eligibility criteria.
UGC-NET Records More Than 1.86 Lakh Applications
According to the figures released by the NTA, the UGC-NET December 2026 session has received 1,86,301 applications. Meanwhile, the Joint CSIR-UGC NET December 2026 examination has recorded 32,660 applications.

When Will the December 2026 NET Exams Be Held?
The UGC-NET December 2026 examination is scheduled to take place from December 14 to 19 in computer-based test mode.
The Joint CSIR-UGC NET examination is scheduled for December 9, 22 and 27. It covers five subject areas: Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Physical Sciences.
The NTA has advised candidates to follow the respective official websites for updates regarding examination city intimation slips, admit cards and other instructions.
