Yogi Adityanath Orders FIR Against Film Ghooskhor Pandat, Manoj Bajpayee Issues Clarification

A fresh controversy has erupted around the upcoming film Ghooskhor Pandat after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed authorities to register an FIR against members of the film’s production team. The action follows complaints alleging that the title and content of the project could hurt public sentiments and disturb social harmony.

The FIR was registered at the Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow after multiple objections were raised regarding the film’s title. Officials said sections of the public found the use of the word “Pandat” alongside “Ghooskhor,” a term often associated with corruption, offensive and potentially inflammatory.

FIR Filed Amid Growing Backlash

According to police officials, the complaint was lodged after authorities received representations claiming the film’s title was objectionable and capable of creating unrest. The case names the director and several members of the production team, reflecting growing scrutiny of content perceived as insensitive.

The move comes as authorities respond to public grievances about entertainment content that may affect communal harmony. Law enforcement agencies have begun examining the matter while further investigation continues.

The controversy intensified after industry groups and legal representatives also questioned whether the filmmakers had obtained proper approval for using the title. A formal notice reportedly warned that continued use without authorisation could invite disciplinary action under industry guidelines.

Director Responds to Allegations

Amid mounting criticism, filmmaker Neeraj Pandey released a statement addressing the concerns. He clarified that Ghooskhor Pandat is a fictional cop drama and that the term “Pandat” refers to a character name rather than any specific caste or community.

Pandey emphasised that the narrative focuses on an individual’s moral journey rather than commentary on social groups. In response to the backlash, the filmmakers decided to temporarily remove all promotional materials, stating that the film should be viewed in full context rather than judged based on partial glimpses.

The decision to pull promotions is being seen as an attempt to ease tensions while dialogue continues around the film’s intent and presentation.

Manoj Bajpayee Issues Public Clarification

Actor Manoj Bajpayee, who plays the lead role of Ajay Dikshit — a morally conflicted police officer — also addressed the controversy through a detailed note on social media. He acknowledged public concerns and said he respects the emotions expressed by viewers.

Bajpayee clarified that his performance was centred on portraying a flawed fictional character and was not intended to make any statement about a community. He also highlighted the seriousness with which the filmmakers have taken the situation, noting that the decision to withdraw promotions reflects sensitivity toward public sentiment.

Legal Notices Add to Dispute

The issue has further escalated with legal notices reportedly sent to the streaming platform and producers, alleging that the film’s title is defamatory and undermines the dignity of a particular community. Industry bodies have also questioned procedural compliance related to title registration.

As the investigation proceeds, the controversy underscores ongoing debates about creative freedom, cultural sensitivity, and regulatory oversight in India’s entertainment industry. With legal scrutiny intensifying and promotional activities paused, the future release strategy of Ghooskhor Pandat remains uncertain.
