Bangladesh Moves to Reset Cricket Ties with India After World Cup Fallout

Bangladesh’s new government has signalled a willingness to restore cricketing ties with India following tensions surrounding the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Newly appointed Youth and Sports Minister Aminul Haque said Dhaka is keen to resolve differences through dialogue and rebuild sporting cooperation.

Haque indicated that he had already held discussions with India’s Deputy High Commissioner and emphasised the importance of resolving disputes through “friendly talks.” His remarks suggest an early diplomatic effort by the administration of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to stabilise sports relations with New Delhi.

Cricket ties between the two neighbours deteriorated after Bangladesh declined to play its matches in India during the T20 World Cup, citing security concerns. The International Cricket Council subsequently barred Bangladesh from participating in the tournament and replaced the team with Scotland.
