The Puranic has launched its new Bhagavad Gita series with Episode 1, introducing viewers to the story behind Sanjaya’s divine vision and the events that set the stage for the Kurukshetra war. Instead of beginning directly with Krishna’s teachings, the episode starts in the royal court of Hastinapur, establishing the narrative perspective through which the Bhagavad Gita unfolds.
From Hastinapur to Kurukshetra
The episode opens inside the palace of Hastinapur, where Dhritarashtra sits on his throne as the sounds of conches and war drums from Kurukshetra reach the royal court. Maharishi Ved Vyasa arrives and informs the blind king that the great war has begun.
According to the traditional narrative, Ved Vyasa offers Dhritarashtra divine vision, allowing him to witness the events of the battlefield despite his blindness. Dhritarashtra refuses the offer. Although he wants to know what is happening, he says he does not have the courage to watch the destruction of his own family with his own eyes.
Instead, Dhritarashtra asks to hear an account of everything taking place on the battlefield.
Ved Vyasa then grants Sanjaya divya drishti, or divine vision, enabling him to perceive events at Kurukshetra from a distance. Sanjaya is entrusted with describing the developments of the war to Dhritarashtra.
This becomes an important part of the Bhagavad Gita’s narrative structure. Through Sanjaya, Dhritarashtra learns about the armies gathered on both sides, the events unfolding before the battle and, eventually, the dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna.
The episode closes as the narrative moves from Hastinapur towards Kurukshetra, with the sounds of conches and war drums growing louder. The transition establishes the battlefield as the setting where one of the most widely studied philosophical dialogues in Indian tradition will unfold.
Rather than reducing the Bhagavad Gita to isolated verses or popular motivational quotes, The Puranic’s opening episode focuses on the context surrounding the text. The series aims to explore traditional Indian knowledge through digital storytelling while encouraging viewers to understand the broader narrative and ideas behind the verses.
The Bhagavad Gita series is available on The Puranic’s YouTube and Instagram platforms, with upcoming episodes continuing the story of Krishna, Arjuna and the teachings of the Gita.
