CBSE Tightens Student Detail Correction Rules, Incomplete Requests to Be Rejected

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has tightened its procedure for correcting students’ demographic details, directing schools to submit complete and properly certified records with every correction request. The Board has warned that requests with missing or inadequate documentation will be rejected.

CBSE said schools must ensure that student details are accurate across admission forms, scholar registers, admission and withdrawal records and transfer certificates. The verification process begins during Class 9 registration, when students and parents are given an opportunity to check and certify the information.

The Board said similar verification takes place at multiple stages through Classes 9 to 12. Registration cards are provided for checking, while details are reviewed again before the List of Candidates is submitted and before examinations. Students, parents and school principals are also required to confirm information on admit cards.

According to CBSE, students receive around 20 opportunities during Classes 9 to 12 to verify and correct demographic details. Despite this, the Board continues to receive post-result correction requests, often without complete supporting records.

Schools have now been instructed to provide certified documents from all previous schools attended by a student wherever required. Requests containing unclear documents, incomplete records or unresolved discrepancies will be rejected. CBSE has also asked students to route correction requests through their schools instead of approaching the Board directly, as direct requests may delay processing when relevant school records are unavailable.
