Delhi L-G Reviews Traffic and Security Preparations for BRICS Summit 2026

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has directed all stakeholder agencies to ensure robust security, smooth traffic management, strong civic upkeep and emergency medical preparedness for the upcoming BRICS Summit 2026, scheduled to be held in the national capital in September.

The directions cover key summit venues and important movement corridors that will be used by visiting delegates and officials during the international gathering.

Sandhu reviewed the preparations during a meeting with senior officers and emphasised the need for seamless coordination among government departments and other stakeholder agencies. He directed officials to complete all necessary arrangements within the prescribed timelines.

The Delhi Lieutenant Governor said the national capital was fully prepared to host the visiting delegates in an orderly, secure and welcoming manner. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining efficient traffic movement and ensuring that security and emergency response systems remain fully prepared during the summit.

Preparations for the BRICS Summit 2026 are focused on multiple areas, including traffic management, security arrangements, civic infrastructure, cleanliness and emergency medical services. Authorities are also working to ensure smooth coordination between agencies responsible for different aspects of the summit.

BRICS is a grouping of major emerging economies that was established in 2006 with Brazil, Russia, India and China as its founding members. South Africa joined the grouping in 2011.

The bloc expanded further in January 2024, when Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates became full members. Indonesia joined as a full member in January 2025, while several other countries became BRICS partner nations.

With the BRICS Summit scheduled for September 2026, Delhi is intensifying preparations to manage the movement and security of international delegates while ensuring that civic services and emergency response systems function smoothly across key locations in the city.
