GATE 2026 Admit Cards Delayed: IIT Guwahati to Announce New Dates Soon

Aspirants waiting for the GATE 2026 admit cards will have to remain patient for a little longer, as the conducting institute Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has officially postponed the release of the hall tickets. The update was shared through a notice on the official GATE website, confirming the delay while assuring candidates that revised dates will be announced soon.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 is a crucial national-level examination for engineering and science graduates, and the delay in admit cards has drawn attention from thousands of candidates across the country. While the notice does not specify the reason behind the postponement, officials have clarified that the change applies only to the admit card release timeline.

Importantly, there is no change in the GATE 2026 examination schedule. IIT Guwahati has reiterated that the exams will be conducted as per the previously announced dates. The computer-based test will take place on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, across multiple sessions and subject papers. The GATE 2026 results are scheduled to be declared on March 19, 2026, as originally planned.

The official notice published on the GATE portal stated that the admit card release date has been postponed and that candidates will be informed shortly about the revised timeline. Until then, applicants have been advised to regularly check the official website for updates and announcements.

Despite the delay, examination authorities have emphasised that candidates should continue their preparation without disruption. With the exam dates fast approaching, aspirants are encouraged to ensure that their application details are accurate and to stay updated on official communications to avoid last-minute issues.

GATE 2026 will be conducted over four days in multiple shifts. On February 7, forenoon and afternoon sessions will cover subjects such as Agriculture Engineering, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Engineering Sciences, and Humanities, among others. The February 8 sessions will include Computer Science, Statistics, and Petroleum Engineering. On February 14, core branches like Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mining Engineering will be examined, followed by Electronics and Communication, Architecture, and Data Science papers on February 15.

The GATE examination plays a vital role in shaping academic and professional careers. Scores are used for admission to postgraduate programmes in premier institutes such as IITs, NITs, and IISc, as well as for recruitment by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). Additionally, GATE scores are considered for scholarships, fellowships, and admissions or academic evaluations by select foreign universities.

While the postponement of admit cards may cause temporary anxiety, officials have reassured candidates that the core examination framework remains intact. Aspirants are advised to stay focused on revision, keep their login credentials ready, and monitor official announcements closely to download their admit cards once the revised date is released.
