US Ambassador Sergio Gor Offers Prayers at Mumbai's Lalbaugcha Raja on Ganesh Chaturthi

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor joined Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Mumbai by visiting the iconic Lalbaugcha Raja pandal and offering prayers to Lord Ganesha. His visit took place during the 10-day festival, as devotees gathered across the city to celebrate the occasion.

Gor described his experience at Lalbaugcha Raja as extraordinary, highlighting the enormous energy, vibrant atmosphere and strong sense of community surrounding the celebrations. He encouraged people who have never witnessed the festival in Mumbai to experience it themselves.

The US envoy also shared his experience on X, describing the celebrations at Mumbai Cha Raja and Lalbaugcha Raja as a vibrant expression of faith and community that brings people together. He extended his wishes to those celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi.

Mumbai witnessed large-scale festivities during the festival, with devotees gathering at homes and public pandals, accompanied by devotional music and chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya”.

Lalbaugcha Raja is among Mumbai's most prominent Ganesh idols and has become closely associated with the city's annual Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. The idol is linked to the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal at Putlabai Chawl, which was established in 1934. The tradition has also been associated with the Kambli family for more than eight decades.

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated across Maharashtra and other parts of India. The festival begins on the fourth day of the Hindu lunisolar month of Bhadrapada and concludes with Anant Chaturdashi. Devotees install Ganesha idols, perform prayers and participate in cultural celebrations.

Lord Ganesha is revered as the deity of wisdom and intelligence, the remover of obstacles and a symbol of new beginnings.
