Hyderabad Siblings Found Dead in Varanasi Hotel, ₹6.6 Lakh Cash Recovered; Suicide Suspected

A tragic incident unfolded in Varanasi after a brother and sister from Hyderabad were found dead inside a locked hotel room, with police suspecting a possible suicide case. Authorities recovered ₹6.6 lakh in cash along with personal belongings during the investigation, while the exact cause of death will be confirmed after post-mortem findings.

According to officials, the deceased were identified as Ganesh Goud Gunlapally (46) and Dhanalakshmi Gunlapally (38), residents of the Sitaphal Mandi area in Hyderabad-Secunderabad. The siblings had checked into a hotel in Varanasi three days before their bodies were discovered. Police said they had largely remained inside their room and had barely stepped out during the last two days of their stay.

Suspicion arose when hotel staff attempted to contact the guests on their scheduled checkout day but received no response. After repeated phone calls went unanswered, the management alerted the authorities. The room was later opened using a master key in the presence of police officials.

Upon entering, investigators found both individuals lying on the floor near the bed. Blood was reportedly seen oozing from their mouths, while empty medicine strips and wrappers were scattered around the room. The presence of these items led police to suspect that the siblings may have consumed toxic substances.

During the search operation, officials recovered identification documents including Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, a passport, and a laptop, along with ₹6,61,000 in cash. There were no visible signs of forced entry or physical struggle, suggesting that no external interference was immediately apparent.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Gaurav Bansal, who visited the spot, stated that no suicide note had been found so far. He noted that the preliminary assessment indicates poisoning as a possible cause, though authorities are awaiting forensic and autopsy reports for confirmation.

Police teams are currently examining CCTV footage from the hotel premises and questioning staff members to establish a clear timeline of events leading up to the deaths. Efforts are also underway to contact the family members of the deceased in Hyderabad to inform them about the incident.

The case has drawn attention due to the recovery of a large amount of cash and the unusual circumstances surrounding the siblings’ stay. Investigators are looking into possible personal, financial, or health-related factors that may have contributed to the incident.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation until official findings are released. The final conclusions will depend on forensic analysis, post-mortem results, and further investigation into the background and recent activities of the deceased.
