Abhishek Sharma Smashes 77 Off 26 Balls in Sher-e-Punjab T20 League Opener

Indian T20I opener Abhishek Sharma announced his arrival in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League in spectacular fashion, smashing 77 runs off just 26 balls for Amritsar Soormas against Mohali Kings.

Abhishek attacked from the very beginning, striking at an extraordinary rate of 296.15. His explosive innings featured six fours and seven sixes and played a major role in Amritsar posting a massive 258-run total.

Sahaj Dhawan and Naman Dhir also made important contributions, scoring 45 and 47 respectively. Rahul Kumar added 23 off 13 balls, while Abhay Choudhary, Jashanpreet Singh and Vaibhav Kalra chipped in with quick runs.

However, Amritsar's huge total was not enough.

Mohali pull off stunning chase

Mohali Kings produced a remarkable response, chasing down 259 with three balls to spare.

Anmolpreet Singh was the star of the chase, smashing 133 off just 51 balls with 10 fours and 12 sixes. He shared a massive 151-run partnership with captain Ramandeep Singh.

Ramandeep remained unbeaten on 69 off 40 balls and hit the winning runs as Mohali reached 262/5 in 19.3 overs.

Abhishek also contributed with the ball, taking one wicket in 2.3 overs, although he conceded 37 runs.

Abhishek gets valuable game time

Despite Amritsar's defeat, Abhishek's explosive knock gives him valuable match practice ahead of India's upcoming international commitments.

The opener will be looking to build rhythm ahead of India's three-match T20I series against Afghanistan later this month. India also have a packed schedule featuring limited-overs matches against the West Indies before their tour of New Zealand.

Abhishek will also be among India's players expected to feature at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, where India will look to defend the men's cricket gold medal won at Hangzhou in 2023.

His 77 off 26 balls has already provided a major statement of intent.
