Asian Games 2026: India Rowing Camp Faces Turmoil Over Last-Minute Crew Changes

India’s rowing camp at the 2026 Asian Games is facing uncertainty after several athletes were moved between events just days before competition. Rowers have reportedly been shifted from their originally assigned crews, while reserve athletes have been brought into first-choice line-ups. The sudden reshuffle has caused frustration among members of the contingent.

Among the reported changes, 2022 Asian Games silver medallist Arvind Singh has been moved from single sculls to the quadruple sculls, with Balraj Panwar moving in the opposite direction. Navdeep Singh and Kulwinder Singh have reportedly been shifted from double sculls to the quadruple event, while other changes have affected the men’s pair and coxless four.

Some athletes reportedly threatened to skip training if the changes were not resolved. Rowers have questioned the process, noting that crew changes are generally permitted in certain circumstances such as medical emergencies. Officials were working to address the situation, with reports later indicating efforts to restore normalcy.

Meanwhile, the Asian Games equestrian eventing competition was postponed because of Typhoon Dujuan. The Games also recorded their first doping case after Thai badminton player Pitchamon Opatniputh returned an adverse finding for furosemide and was provisionally suspended.
