Trump Open to Meeting Iran President Pezeshkian at UN General Assembly

US President Donald Trump has said he is “probably open” to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, creating the possibility of direct contact between Washington and Tehran amid continuing tensions. Pezeshkian is scheduled to travel to New York on Tuesday for the 81st UN General Assembly.

A meeting between the two leaders has not been confirmed by either side. Trump’s comments came as the US and Iran remain locked in a prolonged conflict, with diplomatic efforts continuing alongside military threats. Reuters reported that Iran remains a major focus of Trump’s UNGA schedule, while he is also expected to meet leaders from several countries during his visit.

Pezeshkian’s participation follows Washington’s decision to allow him and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi to attend the UN gathering, although restrictions have been placed on the Iranian delegation’s movements in New York. Iranian officials are expected to present Tehran’s position on the conflict and international developments during the General Assembly.

The possible meeting comes as tensions remain high across the region. Iran has warned against further US military action, while attacks involving Houthi forces and disruption around key shipping routes have added to regional concerns. At the same time, signs of possible diplomacy have affected oil markets, with crude prices falling on expectations that discussions around the UNGA could create an opening for negotiations.

For now, Trump’s statement indicates openness to a meeting, but there is no confirmed schedule or agreement for direct talks between the two presidents.
