Delhi SIR: Over 80 Lakh Voters Under Scrutiny Ahead of Final Roll

Delhi’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls has put more than 80 lakh voters under verification, with the Election Commission examining deletions and discrepancies before the final list is published. Of around 1.45 crore electors, approximately 47.5 lakh names were excluded from the draft roll under categories including absent, shifted, deceased and duplicate voters. Another 33.13 lakh electors were issued notices over discrepancies, including logical inconsistencies and failure to map their details with the 2002 electoral roll.

Several prominent voters, including politicians, senior bureaucrats, judges and election officials, have also received notices. The Election Commission has clarified that receiving a notice does not automatically mean that a voter will be removed from the electoral roll. The notices are part of the verification process, allowing electors to submit documents and clarify discrepancies before Electoral Registration Officers take a final decision.

The verification process is underway, with voters required to submit claims, objections and supporting documents within the prescribed timeline. The disposal of notices is scheduled to be completed by October 29, while the final electoral roll is expected to be published on November 4. The Election Commission has also made voter services and electoral-roll information available through its official voter services portal.
