Duleep Trophy Final: Ishan Kishan Leads East Zone's Dominance Against South Zone on Day 2

East Zone continued their commanding run in the Duleep Trophy final against South Zone on Day 2 in Chennai, crossing the 400-run mark with only four wickets down as Ishan Kishan and Kumar Kushagra kept the scoreboard moving.

At 419 for four after 88 overs, East Zone were firmly in control of the summit clash. Ishan Kishan remained unbeaten on 136, while Kumar Kushagra was unbeaten on 71 as South Zone continued to search for a breakthrough.

East Zone resumed Day 2 from a strong position of 385 for four, with Kishan unbeaten on 111 and Kushagra on 63. The pair adopted a measured approach during the opening session, particularly as the ball appeared to stop slightly on the surface.

However, South Zone's bowlers struggled to create sustained pressure.

The second new ball became available after 80 overs, but South Zone initially delayed taking it. Captain Tilak Varma continued with the old ball before eventually introducing the new ball and bringing Mohammed Siraj back into the attack.

Siraj, who had already struggled for control on Day 1, was unable to provide South Zone with the breakthrough they desperately needed. Kishan continued to bat with authority and brought up East Zone's 400-run mark by striking Siraj for a straight-driven boundary.

By the time East Zone reached 403 for four, Kishan had moved to 124 not out and Kushagra was unbeaten on 68. The partnership continued to grow as the two batters consolidated East Zone's dominant position.

Kishan was briefly struck in the lower body by a delivery from MD Nidheesh, but the incident did little to disrupt his concentration. Both East Zone batters looked increasingly comfortable as the South Zone attack struggled to find a way through.

Siraj's figures reflected South Zone's difficult morning, with the pacer having conceded more than 100 runs without taking a wicket at that stage of the innings.

The match had already tilted heavily in East Zone's favour after their dominant batting display on Day 1.

Openers Abhimanyu Easwaran and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi provided East Zone with a strong start. Easwaran reached his half-century before Sooryavanshi, giving the team early momentum in the Duleep Trophy final.

After the opening partnership was broken, Shikhar Mohan and Ishan Kishan added another important stand of 94 runs. Mohan fell after scoring 85, but Kishan continued to take control of the innings.

His unbeaten century ensured East Zone finished Day 1 in a powerful position, and the momentum continued into the second day.

South Zone captain Tilak Varma also faced criticism for his defensive field placements during the opening day. Boundary riders were introduced early in the innings, allowing East Zone's batters to settle without consistent attacking pressure.

The Chennai surface was described as highly favourable for batting, making the first-innings total particularly significant in the context of the final.

With East Zone already beyond 400 runs and six wickets still remaining, South Zone face a major challenge in preventing their opponents from building a substantial first-innings advantage.

Ishan Kishan's wicket remains the biggest priority for South Zone, but with Kumar Kushagra also looking settled at the other end, East Zone are well placed to push their total significantly higher in the Duleep Trophy final.
