This shift is encouraging business schools to reconsider how students are prepared for the modern workplace. Leading institutions are introducing programmes and learning pathways focused on artificial intelligence, analytics and emerging technologies, combining business knowledge with simulations, projects, analytical methods and collaborative learning.
The transformation, however, goes beyond simply adding AI as another subject in a traditional business curriculum. The focus is increasingly shifting towards practical application and what students can actually do with the knowledge they acquire.
A growing number of new-age business education models are placing experiential learning, international exposure, industry projects and entrepreneurship at the centre of their programmes.
Tetr College of Business, for example, follows a four-year undergraduate model designed around learning through practical experience. Students spend different terms across seven countries and business environments, gaining exposure to international markets instead of completing the entire programme from a single campus.
Its undergraduate programmes include Management and Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Finance and Artificial Intelligence, along with an integrated Bachelor's and Master's programme in Management and Technology.
The model focuses on combining academic learning with real-world business challenges. Students work on projects, test business ideas, engage with users and apply concepts across different markets and industries.
Venture building is also becoming an important part of experiential business education. Instead of relying entirely on conventional examinations and case studies, students in such programmes may also be assessed on the outcomes of projects and ventures developed during their academic journey.
According to the institution, ventures created by its students have generated more than $1 million in revenue and raised over $500,000 in funding. The ventures include AI-focused technology platforms, SaaS businesses and consumer-focused startups.
The institution also states that its students have received 314 internship offers from more than 110 companies across 23 countries, reflecting the increasing importance of international exposure and practical workplace experience.
AI is now moving closer to the core of business education as industries integrate the technology into everyday operations. Future business professionals are expected to understand both technological developments and their commercial applications.
Programmes combining finance with artificial intelligence or business management with technology are designed to help students understand emerging roles that require knowledge across multiple disciplines.
The employability debate is also driving this transformation. The World Economic Forum estimates that 39% of workers' existing skill sets could be transformed or become outdated between 2025 and 2030, while skill gaps remain a major challenge for employers undergoing business transformation.
For students, this means that a degree alone may increasingly need to be supported by practical experience, technological literacy and the ability to adapt to changing workplace requirements.
Traditional business degrees are not necessarily losing their relevance. Instead, business education is moving towards a model where classroom learning is supported by real-world projects, industry exposure, international experience and hands-on work with emerging technologies.
The future of business education may therefore depend not only on the degree students receive but also on the practical experiences, skills and exposure they gain throughout their academic journey.
