Tarn Taran Encounter: Gangster Kashmir Singh Killed, Associate Injured

A suspected gangster was killed and his associate injured in an encounter involving the Anti-Gangster Task Force and Tarn Taran Police in Punjab on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Kashmir Singh, alias Sunny or Pungi, a resident of Muradpur in Tarn Taran. His associate, Gursewak Singh, is receiving treatment at a hospital.

Police said Kashmir Singh was wanted in several criminal cases, including alleged drug trafficking and attempted murder. Authorities also alleged that he had previously opened fire at police personnel in two separate incidents.

According to police, officers received information that Singh was in the Khadoor Sahib area and launched a joint operation. The two suspects were reportedly spotted travelling on a motorcycle. Police said they opened fire when officers attempted to stop them, prompting retaliatory firing.

The suspects allegedly abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to flee before firing again at the pursuing team. One bullet reportedly hit a police officer’s protective jacket, preventing injury. Both suspects were injured during the exchange and taken to hospital, where Singh was declared dead.

Police said a pistol and a .30-bore handgun were recovered from the scene. The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the encounter and are also examining the criminal records of the two suspects.
