India vs Bangladesh Series Could Be Delayed Again as BCB, BCCI Continue Talks

India’s proposed tour of Bangladesh could face another delay, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) yet to finalise the schedule for the six-match series.

The Indian cricket team is expected to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Bangladesh. The series was originally scheduled for August 2025 before being postponed to September 2026. However, with the proposed September 3 start date approaching, uncertainty remains over whether the tour will go ahead as planned.

BCB president Tamim Iqbal said discussions between the two cricket boards are still underway.

“Both boards remain in discussion about the India series. The dates may be shifted here or there,” Tamim said during a press conference in Dhaka.

India vs Bangladesh Series Yet to Receive Final Confirmation

The uncertainty over the tour has also affected Bangladesh’s domestic cricket calendar.

The BCB recently announced the Game Development Trophy, featuring Under-17, Under-19 and Under-23 players. The tournament is scheduled to take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur between August 28 and September 9, overlapping with the proposed India series.

However, Tamim said the domestic tournament could be moved if the India-Bangladesh series is finalised.

According to him, the BCB can shift the competition to another venue if necessary and adjust its schedule once the international fixtures are confirmed.

The revised tour was expected to feature matches in Dhaka and Chattogram, but the BCCI has not yet publicly confirmed the final itinerary.

India Tour Was Already Postponed Once

The proposed series has already undergone a major scheduling change.

India were initially expected to tour Bangladesh in August 2025, but the series was postponed by a year. A revised schedule was later announced for September 2026, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.

With the proposed opening ODI now only weeks away, the two boards are yet to provide complete clarity on whether the series will begin on September 3 or move to a later date.

Recent tensions between cricket authorities in India and Bangladesh had also added uncertainty to the relationship. However, there have been signs of renewed engagement following Tamim’s appointment as BCB president and his recent visit to India.

Bangladesh Premier League May Also Be Put on Hold

Apart from the uncertainty surrounding India's tour, the future of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is also under discussion.

Tamim indicated that the BPL may not be organised this year as the BCB looks to address financial and administrative issues surrounding the tournament.

The board has reportedly suffered significant financial losses over the previous two editions and is working with franchises to resolve pending payments and other financial concerns.

Tamim suggested that the BCB would rather take additional time to fix the tournament's financial model than organise another season without resolving the underlying problems.

For now, the immediate focus remains on finalising the India-Bangladesh series. Until the BCCI and BCB agree on the dates, Bangladesh will have to keep its cricket calendar flexible.
