Mustafa Zahid in Talks to Reprise Tera Mera Rishta for Awarapan 2: Report

Pakistani singer Mustafa Zahid, whose soulful rendition of Tera Mera Rishta became one of the defining tracks of Emraan Hashmi's 2007 film Awarapan, is reportedly in discussions with the makers of Awarapan 2 to record a new version of the song.

According to media reports, the proposed collaboration is still under negotiation and has not yet been officially confirmed.

Song Likely to Be Used Only for Promotions

As per a report by Mid-Day, Mustafa Zahid is currently in talks with producers Mukesh Bhatt and Vishesh Bhatt. If the agreement is finalized, the recording is expected to take place in Dubai.

However, sources indicate that the recreated version of Tera Mera Rishta may not feature in the film itself. Instead, the makers are reportedly planning to use the track exclusively for promotional content and social media campaigns.

The decision is said to be linked to possible certification and regulatory complications surrounding the inclusion of Pakistani artists in the film's official soundtrack.

Collaboration Awaits Final Approval

The project remains at a preliminary stage, with approvals pending from all stakeholders.

Neither the filmmakers nor Mustafa Zahid has made an official announcement regarding the collaboration.

If finalized, it would mark one of the few recent collaborations involving a Pakistani playback singer and a mainstream Bollywood production.

Why the Collaboration Is Significant

Following the 2016 Uri terror attack, major Indian film bodies discouraged collaborations with Pakistani artists. The industry largely maintained this stance in the years that followed.

The issue resurfaced after the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, with several film associations reiterating their position regarding professional collaborations with Pakistani talent.

Against this backdrop, Mustafa Zahid's possible return has attracted considerable attention within the entertainment industry.

‘Tera Mera Rishta’ Remains a Fan Favourite

Released in 2007, Awarapan became one of Emraan Hashmi's most memorable films, largely due to its emotional storyline and acclaimed soundtrack.

Among its songs, Tera Mera Rishta emerged as a timeless romantic track, earning widespread popularity and continuing to be streamed years after its release.

The possibility of reviving the song has generated excitement among fans of the original film.
