OnePlus has announced one of the biggest changes in its history by confirming that it will phase out OxygenOS and transition all future smartphones to Oppo's ColorOS. Alongside the software shift, the company has also revealed that it will stop launching new products in the United States and Europe as part of a broader global restructuring strategy.
However, the smartphone maker has clarified that its India operations will continue as usual, dismissing speculation about an exit from the Indian market.
In a post on its India community forum, OnePlus confirmed that ColorOS 17, based on Android 17, will become the default operating system for all future OnePlus smartphones.
Existing users with eligible devices will also have the option to voluntarily upgrade from OxygenOS to ColorOS 17 once the update becomes available.
According to the company, adopting a single software platform will:
Although OxygenOS had its own identity for years, it has shared the same underlying codebase as ColorOS since 2021, while OnePlus devices sold in China have already been running ColorOS.
OnePlus also confirmed that its sister brand Realme will discontinue future development of Realme UI.
Like OnePlus, upcoming Realme smartphones will ship with ColorOS 17, further unifying software across Oppo's smartphone ecosystem.
In separate announcements for North America and Europe, OnePlus confirmed that it will cease launching new products in both regions.
The decision forms part of what the company described as a "proactive global strategy adjustment."
While no new OnePlus smartphones will be introduced in the US or Europe, the company stated that:
Eligible users in these markets will also be able to update their devices to ColorOS 17.
Following reports suggesting that OnePlus could also withdraw from India, the company issued a clarification stating that India remains one of its most important global markets.
OnePlus said all business operations in the country are continuing without disruption.
The company highlighted that it has launched multiple new products in India in recent months and plans to introduce the OnePlus N6x in the near future.
It also noted that customer service has been strengthened through Oppo's after-sales service network, offering broader support coverage across the country.
The announcements come amid reports that Oppo is restructuring its smartphone business, which includes Oppo, OnePlus and Realme.
By consolidating software platforms and streamlining regional operations, the company aims to reduce development complexity while focusing resources on key markets.
For longtime OnePlus users, the transition marks the end of OxygenOS—once regarded as one of Android's cleanest and most popular user interfaces—and signals a significant shift in the brand's global strategy.
