Pakistan said it carried out precision aerial and drone strikes on 10 locations in Afghanistan on September 24, after its forces intercepted eight drones that had entered Pakistani airspace from Afghanistan a day earlier. Islamabad said the targeted sites were allegedly being used to launch and store drones involved in the attempted attacks.
Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the strikes were limited to identified military objectives and described the action as a response taken under what Islamabad considers its right to self-defence. Pakistani authorities said all eight drones were detected and neutralised before reaching their intended targets. Four were reportedly intercepted near the Torkham border and four near Kohat.
The latest action comes amid worsening relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities. Islamabad has repeatedly accused groups operating from Afghan territory of carrying out attacks inside Pakistan, while Afghan authorities have rejected such allegations.
Pakistan said it had repeatedly urged Kabul to take action against alleged militant networks and warned that further hostile activity would trigger a firm response. At the same time, Islamabad said it remained committed to dialogue and regional peace.
The strikes follow a series of cross-border incidents in recent days, including Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan earlier in September. Afghan authorities have condemned previous strikes as violations of their sovereignty, while international officials have raised concerns about civilian casualties and the broader escalation.
