Pakistani Inmates Escape Jammu Juvenile Home After Attacking Guards

Three inmates escaped from a Juvenile Observation Home in the R.S. Pura area of Jammu after allegedly attacking police personnel on duty, triggering a massive search operation and raising serious security concerns.

According to police officials, the escape took place around 5:15 pm on Monday when the inmates assaulted guards stationed at the facility and fled the premises.

The escapees include two Pakistani nationals and one local resident from R.S. Pura in Jammu and Kashmir.

Guards Injured During Attack

Authorities said the inmates attacked two police personnel, identified as Vinay Kumar and Parveen Kumar, before escaping. Both officers sustained injuries during the assault and received medical attention.

Officials stated that the attack appeared to be pre-planned, enabling the inmates to overpower the guards and flee the facility.

Weapon Access Under Investigation

Police are also probing how one of the inmates allegedly obtained a locally-made pistol. A video circulating on social media reportedly shows an inmate firing rounds inside the observation home, though authorities are verifying its authenticity.

Investigators are examining whether the weapon was smuggled into the facility or obtained through external assistance.

Massive Manhunt Launched

Following the escape, security agencies launched a large-scale manhunt to locate the fugitives.

Police said:

  • Special teams have been formed

  • Raids are being conducted at multiple locations

  • Border and transit routes are under surveillance

  • Intelligence agencies have been alerted

Officials emphasised that all efforts are underway to apprehend the escapees at the earliest.

Security Lapses Trigger Suspensions

In response to the incident, six police personnel deployed at the juvenile facility have been suspended for alleged negligence.

An internal inquiry has been initiated to examine security lapses, accountability failures and procedural gaps that may have enabled the escape.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance systems, guard deployment protocols and visitor monitoring procedures.

Security Concerns Rise After Escape

The involvement of Pakistani nationals has heightened security concerns, especially given Jammu’s proximity to the international border.

Officials said the investigation will determine:

  • How the inmates planned the escape

  • Possible external assistance

  • Security vulnerabilities within the facility

  • The source of the weapon

The incident has prompted renewed scrutiny of detention facility security protocols across the region.
