Rolling Stones Cancel 2026 Tour as Keith Richards Cites Health Concerns

Legendary rock band The Rolling Stones have officially cancelled their much-anticipated 2026 stadium tour of the United Kingdom and Europe, with guitarist Keith Richards’ health concerns emerging as a key factor behind the decision.

According to a source close to the band, discussions around the extensive tour schedule revealed Richards’ reluctance to commit to a prolonged, physically demanding run of shows. The 82-year-old guitarist reportedly expressed reservations about sustaining a four-month stadium tour, prompting the group to reassess its plans.

An American music critic, quoted by The Sun, said that when the band held detailed discussions about the tour, Richards felt unable to fully commit to the schedule. His concerns reportedly stem from the physical strain associated with large-scale touring, particularly given his age and ongoing health issues.

A spokesperson for The Rolling Stones acknowledged the disappointment for fans but emphasised that the band remains cautious and realistic about live performances. “The band were looking to tour earlier this year but couldn’t make it work either. It’s hard for their fans, but The Stones will get back onstage when they’re good and ready,” the spokesperson said.

Keith Richards has previously spoken about living with long-term arthritis, which he has described as benign but challenging when it comes to extended touring. While he has adjusted his playing style over the years, the condition continues to affect his ability to undertake lengthy tours.

The band’s most recent live outing was the Hackney Diamonds Tour, which included 20 North American dates spread over three months. The tour supported their 2023 album Hackney Diamonds, their first studio album featuring entirely new material in nearly 15 years. In recent years, the Rolling Stones have increasingly limited the scale and duration of their tours.

Despite the cancellation of the 2026 tour, the band remains creatively active. Frontman Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have both spoken positively about their collaboration with producer Andrew Watt, with a second album reportedly nearing completion. Touring pianist Chuck Leavell also confirmed that new material is in its final stages.

While live performances may be on hold for now, the Rolling Stones have not ruled out future concerts, indicating that they will return to the stage when conditions allow and the band feels fully prepared.
