Fresh controversy has erupted following the release of a new tranche of documents linked to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, with unverified claims involving Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates surfacing in the files.
The allegations appear in draft emails written by Epstein to himself in 2013 and were included among millions of pages of material released by the United States Department of Justice as part of a broader disclosure related to the Epstein investigation. The claims have not been substantiated and are not supported by independent evidence.
According to the documents, Epstein alleged that Gates had sexual encounters with Russian women, subsequently contracted a sexually transmitted disease, and sought antibiotics. Epstein further claimed that Gates wanted the medication to be discreetly administered to his then-wife, Melinda Gates. The emails also contain assertions that Gates urged Epstein to delete correspondence related to the alleged incident.
It is important to note that the emails were never sent, appear to be drafts, and reflect Epstein’s own assertions. The Justice Department has repeatedly stated that the presence of an individual’s name in the released files does not imply criminal wrongdoing, awareness of Epstein’s crimes, or confirmation of any claims made in the documents.
Bill Gates has issued a strong and categorical denial in response to the allegations. A spokesperson for Gates dismissed the claims as “completely false” and “absurd,” stating that the documents merely reveal Epstein’s anger and frustration after Gates distanced himself from him.
The spokesperson said the emails demonstrate Epstein’s attempts to damage Gates’s reputation following the end of their association. Gates has previously acknowledged meeting Epstein on a limited basis but has said he regrets the association and has consistently denied any improper conduct.
The latest release includes more than three million pages of investigative records, along with thousands of videos and images, according to the Justice Department. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the documents were made public following an extensive internal review process, aimed at transparency while preserving legal safeguards.
The draft emails, dated July 18, 2013, were reportedly written in different voices, including that of Gates’s former adviser Boris Nikolic. In them, Epstein expressed bitterness over Gates ending their relationship after several years, accusing him of moral and ethical contradictions. None of these accusations have been independently verified.
The files also contain photographs of Epstein and Gates together at various events. Federal authorities have reiterated that photographs or social interactions alone do not establish involvement in Epstein’s criminal activities.
Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. Since then, periodic releases of documents tied to the case have triggered waves of speculation, conspiracy theories and renewed scrutiny of public figures who had contact with him.
Bill and Melinda Gates divorced in 2021 after 27 years of marriage. Melinda Gates has previously said that Gates’s association with Epstein and his extramarital relationships contributed to the breakdown of their marriage, though she has not elaborated publicly.
As with previous document dumps, legal experts caution against treating unverified claims in Epstein-related files as established facts, stressing the need to distinguish between allegations, corroborated evidence and personal grievances recorded in private writings.
