The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment has recovered cash, gold, silver, jewellery and property-related documents collectively valued at around Rs 35 crore during raids at the Lucknow residence of a former Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) in a disproportionate assets case.
The search operation targeted Lalit Kumar, a former Assistant Regional Transport Officer who previously served in Agra and is facing allegations of possessing assets beyond his known sources of income.
The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment carried out raids over two days at Lalit Kumar's residence in Chandralok Colony, Aliganj, Lucknow, after obtaining a search warrant from the court.
The searches were launched following a vigilance inquiry that allegedly found the former transport officer had accumulated wealth disproportionate to his legitimate income.
According to the Vigilance Establishment, officials recovered:
Officials estimate the total value of the recovered assets at approximately Rs 35 crore, with the gold, silver and jewellery alone valued at nearly Rs 20 crore.
Lalit Kumar had earlier been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act after a vigilance inquiry allegedly found that his assets were significantly higher than his declared and known sources of income.
The latest recoveries are expected to strengthen the ongoing investigation as officials scrutinise financial records, investments and ownership documents recovered during the search.
Authorities are also examining whether additional properties or financial assets are linked to the former officer.
The Vigilance Establishment is continuing to analyse the seized documents to determine the complete extent of the alleged disproportionate assets. Officials may also investigate the source of funds used to acquire the recovered assets and whether additional individuals were involved.
The raids were conducted at the Lucknow residence of former Assistant Regional Transport Officer Lalit Kumar.
