The Central Board of Secondary Education has released a revised datesheet for the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations scheduled for 2026, introducing limited changes to the examination timetable while keeping the rest of the schedule intact. The revision primarily affects select papers that were earlier slated to be conducted on March 3, 2026, and has been carried out due to administrative considerations.
According to the updated notification, CBSE has postponed certain examinations to ensure the smooth and efficient conduct of the board exams across affiliated schools in India and abroad. The board has clearly stated that except for the notified subjects, all other examination dates announced earlier will remain unchanged.
For Class 10 students, the revision impacts examinations of 13 subjects that were originally scheduled on March 3, 2026. As per an official communication dated December 29 sent to principals of CBSE-affiliated schools, these papers have now been rescheduled to March 11, 2026. The subjects affected by the change include Tibetan, German, National Cadet Corps (NCC), Bhoti, Bodo, Tangkhul, Japanese, Bhutia, Spanish, Kashmiri, Mizo, Bahasa Melayu, and Elements of Book Keeping and Accountancy.
CBSE has explained that the decision to defer these papers was taken to facilitate better administrative coordination and to avoid logistical challenges during the examination period. Schools have been directed to inform students and parents about the revised dates at the earliest to prevent confusion and help candidates adjust their preparation plans accordingly.
In addition to the changes announced for Class 10, CBSE has also revised the examination schedule for one subject in Class 12. The Legal Studies paper, which was earlier set to be held on March 3, 2026, has now been postponed to April 10, 2026. The board has clarified that no other Class 12 subject has been affected by this revision, and the remainder of the Class 12 datesheet will follow the previously announced timetable.
The board has also reiterated examination timing details for the opening day of the board exams. On the first day of the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations, all papers will be conducted in a single shift, beginning at 10:30 am and concluding at 1:30 pm. Students are advised to report to their examination centres well in advance to complete verification and seating procedures smoothly.
CBSE has urged candidates appearing for the 2026 board examinations to carefully review the revised datesheet and realign their study schedules based on the updated timetable. Students have also been advised to stay in regular contact with their respective schools and rely only on official CBSE notifications and circulars for accurate and verified information.
With the board examinations being a crucial academic milestone, the revised datesheet aims to minimise disruptions while ensuring fairness and clarity for all candidates. Schools and students are expected to follow the updated schedule strictly as preparations move into the final phase.
