The cost of the FASTag annual pass for private vehicle owners will increase slightly from April 1, 2026. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that the price of the pass will rise from Rs 3,000 to Rs 3,075. The increase of about 2.5 percent is linked to inflation adjustments and updated operational costs.
The FASTag annual pass is designed for drivers who frequently travel on India’s national highways. It allows eligible private vehicle owners to use toll plazas without making repeated payments for each trip, offering convenience and potential savings for regular highway users.
Under the updated system, the FASTag annual pass provides access for up to 200 toll crossings or a validity period of one year, whichever occurs earlier. Once the limit of 200 crossings is reached or the one-year period ends, the pass expires and users must renew it to continue receiving benefits.
FASTag is an electronic toll collection system introduced across Indian highways to reduce waiting time at toll plazas and improve traffic movement. The system works through a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag attached to the windshield of a vehicle. When a vehicle passes through a toll gate, the fee is automatically deducted from the linked FASTag account.
The annual pass option is especially useful for drivers who regularly travel long distances on national highways. Instead of paying toll charges multiple times during frequent journeys, the pass allows users to manage their toll expenses more efficiently.
Authorities said the slight price revision reflects periodic adjustments in line with inflation. Such changes are made to maintain the sustainability of highway infrastructure operations while ensuring that toll systems continue to function smoothly.
The pass can only be purchased through the Rajmargyatra mobile application or through the official website of the National Highways Authority of India. Drivers must ensure that their FASTag accounts are active and properly linked to their vehicles before purchasing the annual pass.
Officials have advised users to carefully check eligibility rules and usage conditions before buying the pass. Since the pass is limited to a specific number of toll crossings, it is mainly intended for frequent highway travellers who can fully utilise the benefits.
The FASTag system has significantly transformed toll collection across India since its nationwide implementation. It has reduced congestion at toll plazas, improved traffic flow, and enhanced transparency in toll payments.
With millions of vehicles now using FASTag for highway travel, the system has become a key part of India’s digital infrastructure for road transport and toll management.
As the new pricing comes into effect from April 1, drivers who regularly use national highways may consider the annual pass as a convenient option to manage their toll payments efficiently.
