IIT Bombay has launched an e-Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence through its Educational Outreach initiative. The programme is designed for software developers, engineers, IT professionals, data scientists and fresh graduates who have a basic understanding of computer science.
The programme will be delivered by IIT Bombay faculty, with Great Learning serving as the EdTech partner. It combines foundational computer science concepts with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and includes both synchronous and asynchronous online learning along with an in-person campus immersion component.
The programme is intended to provide learners with a deeper understanding of computer science and AI fundamentals rather than focusing only on the use of AI tools. It is positioned as a postgraduate-level qualification for learners looking to strengthen their conceptual and technical knowledge.
What does the IIT Bombay CS and AI ePGD cover?
The ePGD in Computer Science and Engineering requires learners to complete 36 credits. The curriculum is divided into three broad areas: advanced programming, computing systems, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
Participants are required to complete at least one course from each of these three areas. The programme is designed for learners who already have basic computer science knowledge and want to develop more advanced technical and conceptual skills.
IIT Bombay describes the programme as a rigorous postgraduate qualification rather than a short-term bootcamp or basic skill-development course.
What other ePGD programmes does IIT Bombay offer?
The Computer Science and AI programme is part of IIT Bombay's broader ePGD portfolio under its Educational Outreach initiative. The institute also offers postgraduate diploma programmes in areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, E-Mobility, Computer Science and Engineering, Interaction Design, IC Design in Practice and Digital Governance.
The ePGD in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science covers areas including statistical foundations, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Generative AI and Natural Language Processing. The programme requires learners to complete 36 credits and focuses on practical applications of these technologies.
The ePGD in Interaction Design, offered through IIT Bombay's IDC School of Design, is aimed at working professionals interested in user experience, interaction design and human-computer interaction. Learners can accumulate credits through prescribed courses and receive the diploma after completing at least 36 credits.
The ePGD in E-Mobility focuses on electric vehicle technology and powertrains. The programme was introduced through the C1973 Class of 1973 EV Power Train Lab and is designed with an industry-oriented focus.
IIT Bombay also lists IC Design in Practice and Digital Governance among its ePGD offerings under the Educational Outreach initiative.
The institute says its ePGD programmes are course-based programmes delivered by IIT Bombay faculty. Participants can earn 36 credits, which can be stored in the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). Multiple exit options are also available through individual course credits.
The expansion of IIT Bombay's online postgraduate diploma programmes reflects the growing demand for flexible higher education options among working professionals, recent graduates and learners who may not be able to pursue a conventional full-time programme on campus.
