Imran Khan’s Son Claims Former Pakistan PM Losing Vision in Jail, Blames Govt and Military Leadership

Fresh political controversy has erupted in Pakistan after Imran Khan’s son publicly alleged that the jailed former prime minister is suffering severe health complications, including significant vision loss in one eye. The claims, made by Kasim Khan, accuse the current government and senior military leadership of allowing medical neglect during his father’s imprisonment.

According to Kasim Khan, the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief has lost most of the vision in his right eye after spending an extended period in solitary confinement. He alleged that restricted access to medical care and delays in routine health checks have contributed to the deterioration of Khan’s condition. The remarks included direct criticism of Pakistan’s political leadership and Army Chief Asim Munir, intensifying the already charged political atmosphere in the country.

Imran Khan, once a celebrated cricket star before entering politics, has been held at Adiala Jail since August 2023 following his conviction in a corruption case. The former premier has consistently denied all allegations, describing the legal proceedings as politically motivated. His party supporters have echoed similar claims, arguing that the treatment of the former leader reflects broader political tensions in Pakistan.

Kasim Khan also stated that he and his brother, both residing abroad, have allegedly been denied visas to visit their father during his detention. He urged international human rights organisations and democratic nations to take note of the situation, framing the issue as a matter of global concern over political rights and prisoner welfare.

The health allegations have also drawn reactions from regional political figures. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi criticised what he described as negligence by the federal authorities, claiming that an official medical report acknowledged serious vision loss. However, he questioned the credibility of the evaluation, stating that Khan’s personal doctors were not allowed to conduct a comprehensive examination.

Legal developments are continuing alongside the political debate. The Islamabad High Court has reportedly ordered a detailed medical assessment of the former prime minister, with proceedings scheduled to review his prison conditions and healthcare arrangements. Authorities have maintained that due legal process is being followed, while government representatives have not issued a detailed response to the latest accusations.

Imran Khan’s health has become a focal point in Pakistan’s volatile political landscape, with supporters describing his treatment as persecution and critics emphasising judicial accountability. As court hearings progress and medical evaluations move forward, the issue is likely to remain central to domestic political discourse and international scrutiny surrounding Pakistan’s governance and human rights practices.
