Bihar School Exam: Students Caught Using Mobile Phones, Headmistress Faces Action

Several students were seen using mobile phones while appearing for their half-yearly examinations at an upgraded secondary school in Begusarai's Bhagwanpur block. A video showing students using phones inside the examination hall has gone viral on social media, prompting action against the school's headmistress.

The incident reportedly took place on September 22 at the Upgraded Secondary School in Mokhtiyarpur. The video shows students sitting in the examination hall with mobile phones while attempting their question papers, with no invigilator visible in the footage.

Following the video's circulation, Begusarai District Education Officer Manoj Kumar said a show-cause notice was issued to the headmistress and her salary was withheld. An inquiry has also been ordered to identify the teachers assigned to invigilation and determine who was responsible for the lapse.

School headmistress Lucy Kumari cited a shortage of teachers as multiple examinations were being conducted simultaneously for Classes 9, 10, 11 and 12. She said only three teachers were available in the Plus Two section and some may have been occupied with attendance or paperwork when students used the phones.

The headmistress acknowledged the lapse and said students should not be allowed to carry mobile phones into examination halls. The authorities will determine responsibility after the inquiry, with further action expected against those found accountable.
