Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 With 2nm Chip and Agentic AI

Qualcomm has unveiled its latest flagship mobile platforms, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, aimed at powering the next generation of premium Android smartphones. Announced at the Snapdragon Summit in Maui on September 23, the new platforms are built on a 2nm process and focus heavily on on-device and agentic AI capabilities.

Both chips combine Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU and Hexagon NPU. The company describes the Extreme Gen 6 as its most powerful mobile platform, while the standard Gen 6 brings many of the same capabilities to a wider range of premium devices.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 features a CPU capable of reaching 5.0GHz. Qualcomm has also introduced Adreno Neural Fusion, which uses AI to enhance gaming graphics and visuals, along with camera technologies such as Advanced Professional Video and Intelligent Pixel Control for improved image and video processing.

The company says its new agentic AI capabilities are designed to make smartphone assistants more context-aware, personalised and adaptive rather than limited to individual commands.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 shares the 2nm manufacturing process and core CPU, GPU and NPU architecture, while offering many of the AI, gaming, camera and connectivity upgrades of the Extreme version.

Qualcomm said devices featuring the new platforms are expected from HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo and Xiaomi, although specific models were not announced.
